Expected Case for Projecting Points

چکیده
Let P be a set of n points in the plane. For a line L ⊂ R, we can project the points P orthogonally onto L, which we denote by πL(P ). Imagine that the line L is a graduated line, that is, a line decomposed into line segments (cells) of length one. For a cell c ⊂ L, let Pop(P, c) be the population of the cell c after the projection, that is Pop(P, c) = |{p ∈ P |πL(p) ∈ c}|. For a graduated line L, we say that its concentration Conc(P,L) is the number of points that its most populated cell gets; that is,

Random Multi-Constraint Projection: Stochastic Gradient Methods for Convex Optimization with Many Constraints
Consider convex optimization problems subject to a large number of constraints. We focus on stochastic problems in which the objective takes the form of expected values and the feasible set is the intersection of a large number of convex sets. We propose a class of algorithms that perform both stochastic gradient descent and random feasibility updates simultaneously. At every iteration, the alg...

A recent editorial in this journal provides a summary of key economic, social, and public health considerations of the forthcoming legislation to legalize, regulate, and restrict access to marijuana in Canada. As our government plans to implement an evidence-based public health framework for marijuana legalization, we reflect and expand on recent discussions of the public health implications of...
متن کاملAlgorithms for projecting points onto conics
We study the problem of projecting 2D points onto quadratic curves (ellipses, hyperbolas, parabolas). We investigate various projection algorithms focusing on those that are mathematically proven to produce (or converge to) correct results in all cases. Our tests demonstrate that thosemaybe still unfit for practical use due to large computational errors. We present two new algorithms that are n...
متن کاملChallenges of Rehabilitation Interventions in Beaulieu‐Boycott‐Innes Syndrome: A Case Report
Beaulieu‐Boycott‐Innes Syndrome (BBIS) which is an autosomal recessive disorder is defined by dysmorphic facial features and developmental delay. In this case study, we used the Age and Stages Questionnaire 2 (ASQ-2) for assessment of the developmental status of an Iranian 20-month-old girl displaying a complex BBIS phenotype. Rehabilitation interventions were designed and performed focusing on...
متن کاملEvaluation of specific lesion of ventrolateral PAG projecting to NRM by ibotenic acid using formalin test
It has been reported that neurons in the VL PAG projecting to nucleus raphe magnus (NRM) utilize excitatory amino acids as neurotransmitter. This projection plays an important role in the descending pain modulatory system. In order to determine the role of this pathway in pain perception, male rats received unilateral injection of ibotenic acid stereotaxically. For lesioning VL PAG, unilateral ...
